The CoopeTarrazú cooperative was founded in 1960, at a time when farmers had no place to process their coffee. Today, it has more than 5,000 members who bring their coffee cherries to the shared mill. CoopeTarrazú promotes agricultural training and environmental protection through recycling, renewable energy and reduced water consumption.
Thanks to the altitude and low night temperatures, the coffee cherries mature slowly, resulting in dense beans classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB). Coffees from Tarrazú have won international awards in barista and cupping competitions.
