According to legend, at the beginning of the 17th century, the saint Baba Budan stopped at the port of Mokka in Yemen during his pilgrimage to Mecca. He found a coffee tree, wrapped seven beans in his turban and smuggled them into India. Once he arrived, he planted the beans in his garden near the green, flowering mountains of Karnataka — and this became the birthplace of coffee in India.
The beautiful Chinennahally Estate lies on the outer slopes of the Bababudangiri mountain range, in the Chikmagalur district. This region is renowned for high-quality Arabica coffee. The estate is a family business that has existed for more than 70 years. Various native tree species are grown here, contributing to the biodiversity of the area. Coffee is cultivated under a double layer of shade trees, creating ideal conditions for flavor development. The farm provides free accommodation and recreation areas for workers. During harvest, ripe red cherries are hand-selected, pulped, fermented, washed and then sun-dried.
