In eastern Jamaica, the Blue Mountains rise up to 2,300 m altitude. On these fertile, humid mountains, the famous Blue Mountain coffee — a protected mark — is cultivated. Only coffees certified by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica may carry this label. Nearly 90% of Jamaica’s plantations contain the Typica variety, which produces a fine and smooth coffee despite its low yield.
Wallenford is one of the main exporters, controlling more than 5,000 acres. It manages the entire production chain, from pulping and washing to drying, hand sorting and packing in barrels. The company supports communities through infrastructure, agricultural training and donations to schools.
