Bugisu coffee is grown in eastern Uganda, on the border with Kenya, on the slopes of Mount Elgon. Most inhabitants are farmers who grow coffee, corn and bananas and raise animals. They practice intercropping to improve soil fertility and profitability.
The washing process is carried out by farmers on their own land. Later, coffee is collected at centers in Mbale, Bududa and Budadiri. It is common for coffee to be sold directly in front of the farm to mobile trucks that take it to Kampala for processing and export. The result is a coffee with pleasant nutty notes, lightly fruity and herbaceous.
